|
|
I’m Cheryl Microutsicos, owner of WoW! Graphic Designs, a web and graphic design agency in Central Virginia. My team and I design, build, and maintain WordPress websites for service businesses, nonprofits, and equestrian organizations, and we care for more than 65 sites on a regular basis. Our clients are like family to us -- many have been with us for decades. I value these long-term partnerships and enjoy being someone people can count on as their
business grows.
What is your mantra? Please work, please work, please work... and after 30 years, it usually does.
Tell us 3-5 tech tools that you swear by that make life & work a little easier. What's in your mug/glass/bottle during work hours? Coffee
What's in your mug/glass/bottle after hours? Weekends - wine, weeknights - tea.
Knowing what you do now, what advice would you give to your younger self? Start valuing yourself sooner, because you are worth it. Confidence is half the battle. When you believe in what you offer, the right clients will believe in it too.

This Week's Takeaway
The defining theme for October 19–25 was women strengthening the infrastructure that makes WordPress contribution possible.
Isotta Peira worked on creating more sustainable financial support for student contributors. Pooja Derashri documented the reach and results of educational initiatives. Krupa Nanda coordinated accessibility priorities, while Amy Kamala, Anne McCarthy, and Kira Schroder supported the development and communication processes surrounding WordPress 7.2.
These accomplishments demonstrate that meaningful open-source contributions extend beyond writing code. Funding, education, documentation, coordination, and quality assurance are essential to the WordPress ecosystem's continued development. - On October 22, Isotta Peira published a proposal introducing five sponsorship tiers for WordPress Credits, ranging from in-kind mentorship to $30,000-plus program partnerships. The initiative aims to provide sustainable funding for student participation, translation, accessibility, and other open-source education projects beginning in 2027.
- On
October 23, Pooja Derashri published the September Education Buzz Report, documenting the growth of Campus Connect, WordPress Credits, and Student Clubs. The report highlighted 77 completed Campus Connect events, 140 participating institutions, and more than 7,800 students reached.
- On October 21, Krupa Nanda published the agenda for the October 22 Accessibility Team meeting. The agenda addressed WordPress 7.2 Beta 1, accessibility-ready themes, Core and Block Editor accessibility, and web accessibility documentation.
- Rita Robles Loaiza was recognized for winning first place at the 18th Latin American Women in Computing Conference with a paper about WordPress Credits.
- Amber Hinds published a study on their blog about recent auditing work they did for WooCommerce, auditing 43 extensions for WCAG conformance. 41 of those extensions were managed by teams at Automattic or Fueled, and were remediated, then had
Accessibility Conformance Reports published. It was a great project that resulted in approximately 500 accessibility issues being resolved and a lot more transparency for merchants who are comparing plugins. Accessibility at Scale: How Equalize Digital Helped WooCommerce Meet WCAG 2.2 AA Across 41 Extensions
- WordCamp Canada is coming up November 5-6 in Vancouver. Speakers include Alexanne Laplante, Kathleen Cabral, Mary Baum, Mary Hubbard, Michelle Frechette, Mike Epstein, Robbie Adair, Shanta Nathwani, and Taylor Waldon.
